Zombie Survival - Survive against the wave of zombies |
Because theme is one that translates so well into video game action, its no wonder there is a veritable buffet of Zombie Survival games. I'm not talking specifically about Resident Evil survival horror types (maybe I should be, especially 2+3 which deal with zombie city survival, although not in the magnitude that I have in mind) but just straight up killing zombie/dodging zombie games. I think our game will have more depth to it than this but this is a good example of the theme we're aiming at currently.
Here is a game in Second Life in which you pretty much just shoot waves and waves of undead until they eventually get you. You can't win, just survive for longer periods of time than others so, in that respect its kind of like Tetris. In no other way is this game remotely like Tetris.
I'll give you someone with a greater understanding on the game's perspective:
Onder Skall reports from Louise 193, 230, 39 (Mature)
I’ve been meaning to tell you all about Garage of DOOM for some time now, and the creator Moriash has been super patient with me and one hell of a guy. Thanks for waiting man, sorry I dragged this one out a bit…
So, let me tell you about Garage of DOOM. It’s in the alpha stage at the moment, which means that it’s a work in progress with lots of bugs to be worked out. It also means that it’s free to play. Free is good!
When you arrive in the office, grab the gun from the “in case of zombie attack break glass” box. Click on the double-doors, and you’ll find yourself in a garage. Soon skeletons and little zombie security guards start coming in from the corners, followed by mummies and shadows and all manner of other ghoulies. Shoot them. It’s not really rocket science.
You know, even though it’s a bit like shooting cardboard cutouts, you’ll find yourself quickly addicted to the game. Victory isn’t measured in surviving here; you can’t “win” the game. You just have to last as long as you can before the undead hoards feast on your carcas. Playing a game where you already know you’re dead meat sooner or later is fun sometimes: you get to be reckless making a run for that powerup and get experimental with your shooting pattern. Plus, even though it’s all team play, the highscores for longest lasting victim help keep things competetive.
Even though there are some glitches, not one of them makes this game hard to play or slow. Of course, it’s not the technical aspects that will keep you coming back, it’s the tasty gratuitous violence. Whenever you just feel like blasting something, swing by the Garage of DOOM. If you’re going to get ripped apart by the legions of the undead, you might as well have fun doing itZOMBIE SURVIVAL SM
Another game made from modified metal slug sprites is Zombie Survival SM from Armor Games. Its basically one of those 'protect the castle' games where the levels get progressively more difficult and you earn points to spend on skills to help you with the increase in difficulty. Simple concept, and thats why its fun to play. That, and you're shooting zombies to pieces. The game also utilizes a fair amount of resident evil sound rips like the music, the zombie noises and the bullets you fire.
ZOMBIE SURVIVAL
A bad version of this game is 'Zombie Survival' from CrazyMonkey Games. It feels very flat and light in comparison, none of the sounds seem to really fit either. Its here if you want to see what I mean.
BOXHEAD: THE ROOMS
However, from the same publishing house, CrazyMonkey, comes 'Boxhead games' and the halloween special version of this is a zombie shoot em up where you rapidly accumlulate a wealthy cache of weaponary to fighting back invading hordes of block shaped zombies. The sound in this game and the way in which you move are much heavier and more autenthic feeling; these are definatly important parts to bringing an authentic experience to a player. Here it is to try if you fancy a bit of blasting.
