Resident Evil Zombies

Good old Capcom. They've done their part in solidifying the archetypal undead chappie in their Resident evil video games and here are some examples of their fine work. Truely gruesome!

Notice there is a strong hold on realistic-looking human faces and bodies which brings a strong sense of disgust horror to the table when we start getting these authentic tears of flesh and veins and decay. There are cases throughout as well in which the zombies seem almost to consist of white eyes and a menacing jaw; cleverly done through emphasizing these two areas. They do a good job of turning these creatures into just that - creatures, beasts, like wild animals that we fear to be eaten by. This is a paticularly strong mood to go for and an intimidatingly hostile one at that! Hmm Hmm.

I found an article at gamecareerguide.com (btw looks like a gud site to talk to industry-connected folks!) on the zombies in resident evil representing the 'real'; the inevitable cataclysm of our desires for nihilistic destruction and assimilation. Or to be consumed. It's a pretty heavy read but I need to show it to Owen to see if he'd like to bring any of this subversive element into the game, perhaps in how the essay describes that we are defending our own realities and identies by fighting these attempts to breach the fragile perceptions we have on our surroundings. But, to be honest I think this kind of thinking is best left out of the game for the moment if not indefinatly; I have a habit of seriously overcomplicating and drowing projects.. -kof kof-

Anyway, the essay is here for anyone interested. Which will be no-one but myself.
